Lead Artists

Client: Urban Splash

Category: Public Art & Placemaking

Following a national pitch we were appointed as Lead Artists for New Islington Millennium Village in Manchester. Our vision for the area stemmed from the fact that the UKs first new canal in 50 years was to be built there.

We researched the vibrant folk art of traditional British canal boats and made ourselves experts in the area by learning everything we could from museums and people working in the industry, either to decorate the boats of today or to restore them from the past.

We liaised with Manchester City Council and partially sighted individuals to ensure that our industry first paving satisfied regulatory requirements. In addition to this we designed a series of street furniture and bird and bat poles which take visual cues from the same art and craft genre.
