Following a national competitive selection process United Creatives were appointed to devise a range of public art proposals for Unity Works, an arts and music venue in Wakefield town centre. Our main focus was a large-scale sculptural installation in the foyer entrance area.
Much like a display of wall-mounted weapons in an armory, hundreds of drumsticks were our chosen medium with each one laser-etched with the name of a benefactor to the buildings renovation. The whole artwork was later projection mapped and used for storytelling purposes.
As well as the three dimensional wall installation we also looked into creating a rippled droplet of sound in the ceiling. This was to be made from thousands of drumsticks hanging from an undulating and lightweight form suspended from the ceiling and stairway undercroft.
